Staff Spotlight: Brenda Sierzant, RN, BSN

Lisa Wilson: Brenda is a powerhouse.

Brenda Sierzant: It's something that I do every day. So whether I'm honored or not, I still continue to love my job.

Ken Slats: That's Brenda Sierzant, cluster nurse for SCCPSS. You see, Brenda was recognized as a top five finalists out of 500 nominations by PSNI. That's professional software for nurses, Inc.. It was all part of their 2026 National Nurses Week celebration.

Brenda Sierzant:  I'm in charge of the cardiac initiative. I put on their CPR classes to make sure everybody's safe and healthy in the school system, so it really was an honor.

Lisa Wilson: She's able to analyze, see the big picture and make plans that aren't just limited to one clinic, but include the entire district. And because of her efforts, we have had literally hundreds of people educated in CPR, aid.

Brenda Sierzant: I love when the kids are so interested. So when Lisa and I went to Jenkins High School and we had about 65 kids in front of us, and in the beginning we weren't sure if they were going to come in and try the hands on. And then they did, and they loved it. And a couple of the kids actually are certified already, and we're telling the other kids how to do it.
So that just bring smiles to my face.

Ken Slats: Brenda has been on board with the district since 2022, and she's already made a huge difference. Her CPR drill program has spread knowledge and awareness since the initiative.

Brenda Sierzant: Started from 23 until now. My instructor base is ten individuals and we have trained and certified over 2000 staff and faculty members. We also have trained, some students, a little bit over 300 students in the high schools that know how to do CPR now.

Lisa Wilson: And what it means for us is that our school environments are safer, our school activities are safer. We have more opportunities to have optimal responses when there is a cardiac emergency.

Brenda Sierzant: For next year. I want to increase my instructor base to 14 to 15 instructors, and I would like to certify at least 1200 staff members next year. That's my goal.

Lisa Wilson: It shows that we're committed to not just making sure our students are academically successful, but making sure they're safe and healthy in the school system.
